-October 20 - Best Books and Charlotte Award Nominees 2023 Join two members of the 2023 NYSRA Charlotte Award Committee as they present recent titles that are in consideration for this prestigious award. This will also be our membership drive, so bring a friend. It will be held at the Carthage Free Library, 412 Budd Street, Carthage at 4:30, registration starts at 4:15pm. -November 11-12 Annual NYSRA Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester. Join fellow NYS teachers either in person, or virtually, as we hear from the top names in education. Featured speakers and keynote speakers including: Dr. Sonja Cherry-Paul, Pam Allyn, and Penny Kittle. Check the NYSRA website: www.nysreading.org for more information.
-November: Sip and Paint Fundraiser Join with other budding artists and bring out your inner painter while helping to raise funds to support GTILC. $50 donation will include your painting supplies and a beverage of choice. Contact Sharon Kelly at [email protected]
-December: Writing Contest announces the theme for this year’s writing contest and information for entering will be shared with our members. We encourage all members and teachers across the North Country to encourage your students to participate in the contest.
-January: Zoom workshop with Cindy Wells, professor at SUNY Potsdam, will be doing a workshop on Vocabulary.
-February: Zoom workshop with Jen Hanno, teacher at Carthage Central School District will do a workshop on writing.
-March/April: Writing Contest Reception and Award Ceremony The top three winners in each category will be asked to read their original pieces. We will have a guest speaker join us.
-May: Wine Down the School Year Join us at the Winery for an evening of trivia and relaxation as we sample their latest creations and enjoy some light snacks.
